Steffi Graf's 22 Grand Slam wins puts her 3rd on the all-time list behind Margaret Court and tennis icon Serena Williams. Her consistency and all-round ability across the 4 surfaces used in the Grand Slam Tournaments is illustrated by her being the only player to achieve the "Quadruple Career Grand Slam" - winning each of the 4 major singles titles at least 4 times. Steffi Graf's Grand Slam career spanned different eras in tennis, with her earliest Grand Slam wins, achieved as a teenager, effectively ending the dominance of tennis legends Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. Following the retirements of these great players, Steffi Graf dominated women's tennis from the late 1980's to the mid 1990's - spending a record 377 weeks as the number one ranked player, ending the year as the #1 player in the world a record 8 times. Despite injuries in the later years of her career, she won a remarkable French Open title in 1999 against up-and-coming star Martina Hingis and after reaching the Wimbledon Final announced her retirement from tennis that year.
