Turning Silver to Gold
Keely Hodgkinson's breakthrough performance at the major championships came at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games winning 800m silver at just 19 years old, setting a new British record with a time of 1:55.88. Despite dominating the European Championships, winning gold in both 2022 and 2024, gold medals at major (world) level remained elusive as she won silver medals at the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships. Her golden run in Paris was all the more sweet and further endeared her to the British sporting public who voted her the 2024 BBC Sports Personality of the Year. With the Olympic Gold medal achieved, her sights are firmly set on the 800m World Record (1:53:28 set in 1983) having lowered her personal best to 1:54:61 at The Diamond League event in London in 2024.
