Joe Root has starred for England in all formats of the game - Twenty20, One Day International 50 over cricket and Test Matches. He was a key member of England's Ashes-winning team in 2013 and 2015 and has played over 150 Test Matches for England. His career highlight in the shorter format of the game came with England's historic World Cup win in the 2019 Cricket World Cup culminating in the dramatic final at Lord's where England won after a super over against New Zealand.

Joe Root enjoyed a phenomenal year in 2024 in which he broke a whole host of records - in August he surpassed Sir Alastair Cook when he scored his 34th test century against Sri Lanka at Lord's having tied the record in the first innings of the same game. In October in the first test against Pakistan in Multan, Joe Root became England's highest test runs scorer passing Sir Alastair Cook's tally of 12,472. In the same innings he not only notched up his own highest test score of 262 but set a new test partnership record for any wicket of 454 with fellow Yorkshireman Harry Brook. 

Joe Root captained England in a record 64 test matches from 2017 and 2022, largely maintaining his form as England's best batsman despite the intense pressure and scrutiny that comes with the job. Since leaving the captaincy behind he has seamlessly rejoined the ranks, happy to help his replacement Ben Stokes and reached even greater heights with his batting. A true England great.
